The Retreat is more relaxed than a conference, and more fun, but just as professional. Dinner is provided on Friday.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided on Saturday.  Breakfast only on Sunday.

The Retreat begins on Friday night with a welcome mixer around 5 PM. It’s a very inclusive atmosphere for first-timers.  Having mentioned that, Lisa Dyson hosts a “first-timer” gathering before the welcome mixer begins.  After the mixer, it’s dinner featuring one of our keynote speakers.

About an hour after dinner, there is an editor/agent panel.  After that you are on your own to gather with friends in the bar area or whatever.

Saturday begins with breakfast and a full schedule of workshops by our guests.  (See the main retreat page for our guest list.) We have the chapter awards and Marlene winner announcements at lunch and our second keynote speaker at dinner.  (This year Sarah Morgan and Sarah MacLean are our keynote speakers, and both Sarahs are presenting workshops.)

Also conducting workshops are industry professionals Laura Reeth (publicist), Maggie Linton on “how-to” media interviews, and Mary-Theresa Hussey on editing.

Kathleen Gilles Seidel offers a wonderful writing craft workshop each year.  We usually have a segment called American Author where first-page manuscripts are critiqued by a panel of editors and agents. Saturday night is fun time with “Romance Jeopardy.”  (This year’s Romance Jeopardy theme is “The 20s!” We leave it up to you to interpret what 20s to represent in your costumes.)

We invite around ten editors and agents who offer appointments on Saturday all day.

There is more, but you should find that out for yourself. 🙂 Hope to see you there.
