Workshop Descriptions

“The Book in a Month Club: Fast Draft and Revision Hell” conducted by Candace Havens

Fast Draft is a process in which you’ll finish your book in two weeks or less. Using psychological techniques, Candace will show you how to tap into the part of your brain that stimulates creativity so you can write, write, write! Following Fast Draft, Candace will teach Revision Hell. You will learn to take that jumbled first draft and make it shine. Soon, you’ll be ready to submit your work to agents and editors. Gather your friends and join in for the fun. It’s a two-hour daily commitment that will change the way you look at writing. Everything takes place online, so you’ll be able to download your notes and work when it’s most convenient for you. Give yourself the gift of a finished novel and start on the road to publishing success.

“An Introduction: Editing a Best Seller” conducted by Liz Pelletier

Have you completed a rough draft of your book but have no idea how to tackle your edits? Have your submission efforts netted a full request from an editor or agent only to end in rejection after they’ve reviewed your manuscript? Do you want to learn how to edit like a professional editor? Then you are a prime candidate for this presentation. This workshop will introduce you to the mechanics of the standard ‘three pass’ editing method used by most editors, while summarizing how to not only recognize weaknesses but also how to fix them.

“Structuring A Romance with Tropes” conducted by Liz Pelletier

What is a trope? Why do they work in romance? How to use them effectively to structure a best seller? Liz Pelletier will provide an overview of how tropes can help you write a winner.

LIZ PELLETIER
Liz Pelletier is first and foremost an entrepreneur. Her out-of-the-box approach garnered a groundbreaking distribution deal with Macmillan, as well as a joint venture with St. Martin’s Press.

Since its inception, Entangled has had 27 USA Today bestsellers, 11 New York Times bestsellers, and has earned myriad awards within the industry. Ms. Pelletier, who was also recently named by Bibliodaze as one of 2014′s Most Influential People in Publishing, alongside John Green, Veronica Roth, Sherman Alexie, and HM Ward, to name a few, also acquired the sixth bestselling book of 2012, The Marriage Bargain. Under her direction, Entangled has become an industry leader, forging a new path as the next generation of publishing. Find her on Twitter at @Liz_Pelletier.
