RWA Treasurer Donna MacMeans on Everything Taxes and Your Writing Career

RWA Treasurer, Donna MacMeans will join us in January to talk all things taxes, or at least tax items that are important to writers.  Not only is Donna the current Treasurer on the National RWA board, but she is also a seasoned CPA and writer.  She has presented this subject to other RWA chapters and writing groups.

Donna will provide an overview of taxes for authors, answer common questions authors have and take individual questions from WRW members.  Some of the topics covered will include the nine questions to answer to determine if you’re a business, bookkeeping, allowable deductions, required documentation, how those items will appear on the 1040 Federal tax return, self-employment tax and how it flows on the return.

Cash & Creativity: How Cleaning Up Your Finances Can Spark New Creative Success with WRW member Angele McQuade

If you wish you could earn more from your writing or you’ve been feeling stuck in creative quicksand, the problem might not be your writing, but how you deal with money. Uncertainty or fear about your finances—regardless of your net worth—can shut down your creativity in unexpected ways. This one-hour workshop will teach you strategies for uncovering the truth about your finances, tying up energy-draining financial loose ends, and learning simple, more effective ways to organize and manage your money. You’ll also learn similar strategies for tying up your creative loose ends, prioritizing your projects, and crafting a reimagined vision for your writing career. Be prepared to leave the workshop inspired to take enthusiastic, deliberate action toward both your creative and financial goals.

(Note from the instructor: Please bring paper, pen, and an open mind for our in-class exercises!)
